Job Description
This position is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants as part of our commitment to equal opportunity and under Special Measure provisions of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (SA). Applicants with a strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, experience supporting clients with complex behaviours, or who identify as Nunga or have strong ties to Aboriginal communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
We are seeking Disability Support Workers who are available for weekday afternoon shifts and passive weekday overnight shifts to provide personal support, with a focus on respecting comfort and privacy needs for our Supported Independent Living services (SIL).
As a Disability Support Worker you will be responsible for providing high quality, person-centered support with a culturally inclusive approach to our participants. Due to the complex behavioural needs and cultural background of some of our clients, we are seeking applicants with resilience, emotional intelligence, and a proven ability to work safely and respectfully in cross-cultural and high-intensity environments.
The position aims to empower participants to achieve their potential and live the life they choose. Participants are supported to maintain their independence, exercise choice and control and maintain relationships in accordance with their individual person-centered plans. The position also requires communication with the families and carers of participants and employees at other services and activities that participants might access.
Required:
Disability Support Workers MUST have the following:
Certificate III in Disability, Individual Support or similar
Valid First Aid
Valid CPR Certificate
NDIS Workers Screening Check
NDIS Orientation Module Certificate
NDIS Effective Communication Certificate
NDIS Safe and Enjoyable Meals Certificate
Medication Management Certificate
Valid Unrestricted Drivers Licence
Fluent & literate in English and numeracy to fulfill role
Working with Children Check (not mandatory but preferred)
100 points ID (passport/birth certificate/Visa/right to work)
Cultural awareness training (not mandatory but preferred)
1-2 Years experience working with individuals with behavioural concerns
