About the role
This part-time position (0.8 FTE, with the option to increase) is based in Brisbane South and runs until 30 June 2027. Delivered in partnership with the Disability Advocacy Network of Australia (DANA) and Inclusion Australia, the role focuses on supporting people with intellectual disability and/or high support needs who are currently in supported employment (Australian Disability Enterprises or ADEs).
As a Disability Advocate, you’ll help individuals understand their rights, explore employment options, and navigate the support system. The role combines individual casework, group engagement, and systemic advocacy to create meaningful change.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver supported employment advocacy to assist people with high support needs to understand their rights and employment options, navigate the support system, build confidence to self-advocate, and access further support or make complaints
Provide individual advocacy to resolve employment-related issues such as workplace discrimination, employer disputes, service provider concerns, understanding workplace rights and responsibilities, and clarifying how employment affects government benefits and entitlements
Contribute to the co-design of a consistent advocacy service model
Deliver advocacy at individual, group, and systemic levels
Participate in peer networks and capacity-building activities with DANA
Collaborate with Inclusion Australia to ensure accessibility and inclusion
Support workshops and information sessions for employees, school leavers, and employers
Collect and report data on advocacy outcomes, referrals, and client feedback
Build relationships with ADEs and other stakeholders
Represent ADA Australia at public forums and networking events
Maintain accurate records and meet service targets
Stay up to date with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures
Contribute to workplace safety and quality improvement initiatives
About you
Tertiary qualification in human services, social work, behavioral science, or equivalent experience
Proven experience advocating for people with disability within a social justice framework
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and resolve issues effectively
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Proficient in administrative tasks and confident using client and data management systems

Essential requirements
Current driver’s licence
National criminal history check (less than 3 years old)
Valid NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
Valid Working with Children – Blue Card
