We provide services under the NDIS, run community Hubs, and deliver high-quality support coordination, training, and resources tailored to meet the diverse and intersectional needs of our community.
About this role – State Supervisor (Queensland)
We are seeking a proactive, experienced, and culturally grounded State Supervisor to lead our operations across Queensland. This role requires a deep understanding of First Nations cultures and a strong commitment to working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Deaf and Hard of Hearing peoples and communities.
This position will play a critical leadership role in building culturally safe services, guiding our team across Queensland, and strengthening partnerships with First Nations organisations and community leaders. These teams are currently providing support in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Cairns and Townsville.
This is a key leadership position requiring high-level collaboration, professional integrity, strategic thinking, and a genuine passion for working with the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Indigenous communities.
Experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities is essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Staff Management
Supervise, mentor, and support a diverse team across Queensland, including casual and part-time staff.
Foster culturally safe and inclusive team practices, particularly in relation to First Nations Deaf clients.
Conduct performance appraisals, set KPIs, and lead staff development.
Collaborate with interstate supervisors to support cross-state staff.
Oversee staff training, incident management, and conflict resolution.
Convene regular meetings with a focus on cultural awareness and Deaf inclusion.
Manage team schedules and staffing coverage in collaboration with local and interstate booking officers.
2. Operational Systems Management
Manage staff profiles, rosters, timesheets, and documentation using platforms such as Visual Care/Shift Care.
Maintain and organise cloud storage (e.g., Dropbox) for state documentation.
Ensure documentation and internal systems are culturally appropriate and accessible.
Develop and review internal policies and training resources with a First Nations lens.
Lead onboarding and induction processes with respect to cultural and linguistic diversity.
Uphold workplace health, safety, and cultural safety practices.
3. Financial & Business Operations
Manage budgets and ensure cost-effective service delivery across Queensland.
Participate in strategic planning that includes First Nations perspectives and goals.
Lead local and regional initiatives that increase awareness of Signpedia’s culturally safe services.
Support community-driven and grassroots approaches to Deaf services.
4. Community Engagement & Advocacy
Represent Signpedia in First Nations communities and networks across Queensland.
Build respectful and sustained partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, Elders, Deaf community leaders, and families.
Build and maintain strong professional relationships with NDIS providers, Deaf organisations, schools, families, and service partners.
Facilitate community consultations, events, and gatherings in culturally respectful ways.
Advocate for the unique needs of First Nations Deaf people in local and national forums.
5. Support Coordination Consultancy
Provide expert advice to the national Support Coordination team with a focus on culturally safe practice.
Hold a small caseload of clients, prioritising First Nations Deaf clients and/or Deaf community members with complex needs.
Lead or coordinate specialist client support, including travel, relocation, or remote outreach planning.
About You
You are a strong leader who brings cultural humility, lived or learned knowledge of working respectfully in First Nations contexts, and a deep commitment to empowering Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities.
You understand the intersections of culture, language, and disability, and are passionate about driving systemic change.
You have high organisational skills, can juggle multiple responsibilities and thrive in a values-based organisation
Essential Criteria
Minimum 3 years’ experience in Support Coordination within the NDIS sector
Proven experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities
Experience supervising or managing multidisciplinary teams
Understanding of Deaf culture and commitment to learning Auslan (Australian Sign Language)
High-level organisational, communication, and leadership skills
Based in Queensland and willing to travel, including to regional and remote communities
Desirable
Lived experience of Deafness or Auslan user
Have an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background with lived experience of First Nations community
Have a background in human services, disability, education, or community development
Knowledge of cloud-based systems (e.g. Dropbox, SharePoint, Visual Care and Shift Care)
