About Red Nose
Red Nose is Australia’s national charity working to save little lives through research and education, and providing support to families whose baby or child has died unexpectedly.
We provide specialised bereavement support free of charge to any person affected by the sudden death of a baby or child during pregnancy, birth, infancy or childhood. This includes professional counselling, support groups, peer support, our 24/7 Support Line, and other community-based support activities.
We’re seeking an experienced, calm, and compassionateIntake Support Workerto join our national Bereavement Services team and support families at the first point of contact.
About the Role
Reporting to the National Intake Manager, you’ll provide short-term emotional support, assess needs and risks, and connect families to appropriate Red Nose services.
In this**part-time (22.8 hours/week)**remote role, you will:
Action referrals from health professionals, emergency responders, family members and self-referrals from bereaved parents
Provide initial support and psychological first aid over the phone or by email
Conduct intake and needs/risk assessments to determine eligibility for counselling and bereavement support services
Maintain accurate records using our client management system (Apricot)
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure families receive timely, coordinated care
The required days of work are Monday, Wednesday, and either Thursday or Friday.
About You
You’re a confident and emotionally intelligent professional with a trauma-informed approach. You’re comfortable working with bereaved individuals, supporting those in distress, and navigating sensitive conversations with care and clarity.
You will bring:
Qualifications in social work, counselling, community services or a related field—or extensive relevant experience
Demonstrated ability to work with bereaved clients with complex needs
Ability to understand the complex journey grieving parents undertake when they experience the death of a baby
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate documentation
Confidence working with client management systems and remote tools
Highly regarded:
Experience supporting families after perinatal or infant loss
Familiarity with trauma-informed practice and supporting diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and LGBTIQ+ families
