Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and detail-oriented Compliance Manager to lead our compliance and quality assurance initiatives across our disability and nursing services. This pivotal role ensures our operations align with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Practice Standards, Aged Care Quality Standards, and other relevant healthcare regulations. The Compliance Manager will champion a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement, ensuring our services meet the highest standards of quality and regulatory compliance.
Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will collaborate with clinical and administrative teams, external auditors, and regulatory bodies to maintain and enhance our compliance framework. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by safeguarding client safety, privacy, and dignity while supporting our mission to deliver exceptional, person-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance
Develop, implement, and maintain a robust compliance framework aligned with NDIS Practice Standards, Aged Care Quality Standards, and other relevant regulations (e.g., Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency requirements).
Monitor legislative and regulatory changes in the disability and aged care sectors, updating policies, procedures, and practices to ensure ongoing compliance.
Act as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies, including the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission and the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
Audit and Risk Management
Plan and lead internal audits to assess compliance with regulatory standards, identifying gaps and implementing corrective actions.
Conduct risk assessments to identify potential compliance risks, developing mitigation strategies and updating the organization’s Risk Register.
Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis, and manage the Incident and Complaints Register in line with safeguarding and mandatory reporting obligations.
Policy and Procedure Development
Review, update, and develop internal policies, procedures, and codes of conduct to reflect best practices and regulatory requirements.
Ensure all policies are accessible, communicated effectively to staff, and integrated into daily operations.
Maintain comprehensive documentation for audits, accreditation processes, and clinical governance reviews.
Training and Staff Development
Design and deliver regular training programs for staff on compliance, safeguarding, risk management, and quality assurance, including induction for new employees.
Foster a culture of compliance and accountability by providing ongoing guidance and resources to service delivery teams.
Collaborate with the Learning and Development team to embed compliance training into professional development initiatives.
Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement
Develop and monitor Quality Improvement Plans to enhance service delivery and client outcomes.
Promote a person-centered approach, ensuring client safety, privacy, and dignity are prioritized in all compliance activities.
Analyse compliance data and quality indicators to identify trends and implement proactive improvements.
Stakeholder Engagement
Serve as the key contact for external auditors, accreditation bodies, and regulators, facilitating smooth audit processes and addressing findings promptly.
Work closely with service delivery teams to provide compliance guidance and support adherence to best practice standards.
Engage with clients, families, and community stakeholders to ensure compliance activities align with their needs and expectations.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration, Law, Social Work, Nursing, Public Health, or a related field.
Postgraduate qualifications in Compliance, Risk Management, Quality Systems, or Clinical Governance are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a compliance, quality assurance, or risk management role within the health, disability, or aged care sectors.
Proven expertise in interpreting and applying NDIS Practice Standards, Aged Care Quality Standards, and clinical governance frameworks.
Experience conducting audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations, with a track record of implementing effective corrective actions.
Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver compliance training programs for diverse teams.
Skills
In-depth knowledge of regulatory environments in disability and aged care, including safeguarding and mandatory reporting requirements.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, including staff, clients, and regulators.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience in root cause analysis and report writing.
Proficiency in compliance and client management systems (e.g., iCare, Lumary, or similar platforms).
Ability to lead change initiatives and foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
Certifications
NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain).
Working with Children Check.
Current National Police Check.
ISO 9001, Compliance, or Risk Management certification (desirable but not essential).
Other
Must be an Australian resident or hold valid work rights in Australia.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within the Central Coast, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, and Hunter Regions as needed.
